Stage Fundraising
Up Decision 2004

Dear Friends:

(January 2004)  We have been "green-lighted" to re-open the stage at the historic Hartington City Auditorium (1923).  This building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Sometime in the 1980's, the stage was boarded up for various reasons:  each high school had their own stage, infrequent use, vandalism, etc.  Sure, our group would like to have a place to perform, but re-opening the stage would give other community groups more options when planning and executing their activities.

Our first purchase upon fund raising is to build a strong scaffold to be used whenever the hoop apparatus needs to be removed from the front of the stage.  Initially, this scaffold would serve to safely roll the hoop to the side of the stage for wall deconstruction.  This scaffold will easily be attached and detached from the hoop apparatus.  Cost not to exceed $1,000.00.

Our second step is to carefully deconstruct the existing wall and, using materials from the existing wall and new materials,  build a 10' tall folding wall with 8' of security netting above.  Cost not to exceed $3,400.00.

Our third step would be to purchase a 12' step ladder (type 1A) to be able to unhook the security netting above the folding wall, and to set up rigging and lights.  Cost not to exceed $260.00.

Our fourth step would include 2 fire extinguishers--one for each side of the stage.  Cost of $36.99 per extinguisher=$73.98.

Our fifth step would be to purchase 4 gallons of exterior flat black paint to paint the back and side walls of the stage area (to camouflage the bats--humor).  Cost of paint $46.00.

Our final step would be to purchase a new stage curtain with valance.  Still awaiting estimates on cost, but believe $5,000.00 would be a close estimate.

The Cedar County Theatre is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization so your contribution is tax deductible

(July 2004)  Well, friends we didn't quite make it to the "curtain" stage of our plans, but with community support, we were able to reopen the stage and put on a fantastic, fun production.  We've heard nothing but good things and we hope to keep entertaining.  Entertainment and education is a constant goal.

As of July 18, 2004, we have raised $5,067.59 (see below) toward the stage reopening.  Expenditures to reopen the stage totaled $4,555.29 (see below).  That leaves $512.30 as seed money for our future goals of portable seating, window coverings, air conditioning, backstage plumbing, etc.

Please contact Sally Opfer or Shelley Lammers if you would like to make a donation of time or money toward stage/auditorium improvements.  Your support on this project would be greatly and sincerely appreciated.
